Manchester united say no to hazard condition: if this is why hazard want to join us then let him remain in Chelsea
Jose Mourinho is in unchartered territory.
Second in the table and without the slightest concern about his position.
His biggest issue this season has been with regard to just how fat and long his next
Manchester United contract will be - not whether he will still be in a job this time next year.
Of course his position shouldn’t be under threat.
Two trophies in his first season at Old Trafford and with his side on course for their best
Premier League campaign since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, United are undeniably on an upward trajectory - even if that has been lost in the slipstream of Manchester City’s incredible form.
But Mourinho operates on the edge. His remarkable success has been produced in the constant shadow of the axeman.
Which is why he is in such an unusual position now.
Chelsea twice sacked their greatest manager of all time despite seven trophies - including three titles - over two glory-laden spells at Stamford Bridge.
At Real Madrid he walked away before he was pushed a year after breaking Pep Guardiola’s dominance of La Liga.
Mourinho is used to working at clubs where nothing but the best will do - and he thrives in such surroundings.
United aspire to the same - and maintained such standards under Ferguson’s 26-year reign.
But they are also a club with the type of perspective rarely seen among Europe’s elite.
