Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed the reason Barcelona rested Lionel Messi during the Champions League 0-0 draw against Juventus on Wednesday in Turin.
Messi was on the bench for the entire first half but came in the second half to replace Deulofeu in the 56th minute against the Serie A giants Juventus.
Barcelona draw was enough for the Camp Nou giants to secure a place in the knockout stage.
Why Messi was benched against Juventus, Valverde explains
Spanish outlet Diario Gol (as per the Express) claim Ronaldo knows the reason why Messi was omitted from Ernesto Valverde’s starting line-up.
It is claimed that Los Blancos forward Ronaldo feels Barcelona boss Valverde and Messi have both made a pact about his involvement in games this season.
The Argentina forward wants to stamp his authority in the next year’s World Cup in Russia but he knows needs to stay fit and keep himself in a top condition.
And Diario Gol ( as per the Express) say Ronaldo is aware of Messi’s burning desire to win the one trophy with his national team that has evaded him throughout his illustrious career.
The 32-year-old himself knows the importance of remaining fit and appreciated Zinedine Zidane rotation policy last year that helped him took the Champions League knock out stages by storm last season.
Ronaldo helped Real Madrid to edge past Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and Juventus due to rest that he was compulsorily given.
Messi is supposed to be in the Lineup against Valencia on Sunday in their next La Liga game in a bid to extend their lead to seven points.
